UniClipboard

Daily Use

Browse clipboard history, upload manually, upload via the system share sheet, and enable auto-sync.

Edit on GitHub

Once you're connected to a desktop (if you aren't yet, start with Connect to a Desktop), you do almost everything from the main screen: view history, upload content, and control syncing.

Main screen

Opening the app lands you on your clipboard history, shown as a grid of cards. Each card is one clip (text, image, or a single file), newest first. The top bar has three things:

  • Search — filter history by content.
  • Current server name — tap it to open the switcher and move between multiple desktops (see Connect to a Desktop).
  • Connection status dot — shows whether your link to the desktop is healthy.

You can filter history by type (text / image / file) to see only what you care about.

Adding content

The Add floating action button (FAB) in the bottom-right corner expands into 5 actions:

ActionWhat it does
Take photoShoot a new photo and upload it
Pick imageUpload an existing image from your photo library
Pick fileUpload a file
Upload clipboardUpload whatever is on your phone's system clipboard
Sync nowDo one send/receive with the desktop immediately

After you pick something, it appears in your history right away (see Saved means done below), then gets pushed to the desktop in the background.

Uploading via the system share sheet

You don't have to open UniClipboard first. From any app, tap the system share button and choose UniClipboard from the share sheet to send the current item (text, link, image, file) over.

Share from the source app

In your browser, photos, files, or any other app, tap the system share button and pick UniClipboard.

It lands in local history instantly

The shared content is written to UniClipboard's history immediately — no waiting on the network.

You return to the source app

The share sheet closes and you go back to what you were doing. Pushing to the desktop happens in the background and doesn't cost you any time. (In some cases, such as screenshots and system shares, the UI may stay inside the app.)

On iOS, the share extension appears in the system share sheet automatically once the app is installed — you don't need to enable it in Settings. If it's ranked low, you can drag it forward manually and mark it as a favorite in the share sheet. See iOS Extensions.

Saved means done, and the clock badge

Whether you use the FAB or the system share sheet, UniClipboard always saves locally first and pushes in the background: the moment content enters your history it's done, and you can see it right away.

A card that hasn't been pushed successfully yet shows a clock icon in its bottom-right corner, meaning "pending upload / pending sync." The background retries automatically, and once the push to the desktop succeeds the badge disappears. So a clock you see is nothing to act on — it clears itself. Only a clock that never goes away signals a connection problem (see Troubleshooting).

Foreground auto-sync

The main screen has an auto-sync toggle. When it's on, as long as the app is in the foreground it does two things at once:

  • Auto-apply remote — new clips on the desktop flow into your phone automatically.
  • Auto-push local — anything you newly copy on the phone is sent to the desktop automatically.

This foreground toggle only works while the app is open. To send and receive even when the app isn't in the foreground or the screen is locked, iOS relies on the keyboard / share extensions plus background configuration, and Android relies on background clipboard access — see iOS Extensions and Android Background Access respectively.

Card detail actions

Tap any card to open its detail view, where you can:

  • Copy — write this content back to your phone's system clipboard.
  • Save image to library — for image content.
  • Save file — for file content.
  • Delete — remove this entry from history.

Supported content types

The UniClipboard mobile app syncs three kinds of content:

  • Text (including links)
  • Images
  • A single file

Where to go next

  • Connect to a Desktop — scan a code or fill in the server manually, and switch between multiple servers.
  • iOS Extensions — the keyboard, the share extension, and the "paste from other apps" permission.
  • Android Background Access — read/write the clipboard in the background, and auto-sync on copy.
  • Troubleshooting — what to do when you can't connect or content won't sync.
